In the summer of 1934, a small group of men were aware of the great need for the forming of a volunteer fire department. Thus, at a meeting in a filling station, operated by William Cromer, the Cronomer Valley Fire Department was planned.
“Cronomer Valley” is the name given to the geographic area those men would serve that lies at the bottom of Cronomer Hill, named after an Algonquin Indian “Chief Cronomer” from Revolutionary times.
